We care for people with a broad spectrum of endocrine and metabolic problems. This includes diabetes and its complications, lipid disorders, thyroid diseases including thyroid cancer, osteoporosis, calcium disorders, polycystic ovarian syndrome, insulin resistance syndrome, hirsutism, pituitary disorders and tumors and adrenal disorders. Many of our diabetic patients use insulin pumps. Our offices offer all currently available procedures and treatments for endocrine disorders, including ultrasound of the thyroid, fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules and bone densitometry (DEXA). We have a special emphasis on obesity and weight loss through the Lutheran Weight Management Program and the St Joseph Hospital Bariatric Surgery Program.
All of our endocrinologists are board certified in internal medicine and the subspecialty of endocrine and metabolic disorders by the American Board of Internal Medicine. Our nurse practitioners are also board certified.

Dr Beyer obtained his bachelor's degree from Dension University and his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in endocrinology at the University of Minnesota Hospitals. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He holds his own radioiodine license for administration of radioiodine for the treatment of both hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. He is certified by the ISCD as a reader of DEXA (bone densitometry) scans. He is certified by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists in thyroid ultrasound and fine needle aspiration of thyroid nodules. His interests span the entire spectrum of endocrine problems and diseases. He is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies.

Dr. Karas comes to IMA from Lafayette with over 15 years of experience in
Endocrinology. He obtained his bachelor's degree from the University of
Toledo and his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Chicago College of
Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship in internal medicine at
Doctors Hospital in Columbus, Ohio and his residency and endocrinology
fellowship as the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio. He is board
certified in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology, Metabolism, and Diabetes.
His interests span the entire spectrum of endocrine problems and diseases.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Medical
Association, and the Fort Wayne Medical Society.

Dr Mastbaum is the former Chairman of the Division of Endocrinology at Indiana Medical Associates. He has currently limited his practice to overweight and weight management, and is not accepting new patient diabetes or general endocrinology consultations. In addition to his role as Medical Director of the Lutheran Weight Management Program, Dr Mastbaum serves as Medical Director of the Diabetes Treatment Centers at Lutheran and Parkview Hospitals and is a frequent speaker on subjects related to diabetes and other aspects of endocrinology and metabolic disorders. He is a national consultant in the fields of obesity, diabetes and management of chronic diseases. He maintains his affiliation with the Lutheran Hospital Intensive Diabetes Treatment Program and provides out-patient care for patients with diabetes on the insulin pump.
